What to expect from the different Scouting Sections

 Joey Scouts

Joey Scouts is the first section of Scouts and is for young people aged 5 - 8. A young person can join anytime after their 5th birthday, provided they are attending school full time. The Joey Scout section focuses on fun and friendship and is a gentle introduction to a world of adventures through Scouting. Working together in a Unit, you will discover lots of different, fun, exciting and challenging adventures outdoors.

Cub Scouts

The Cub Scout section focuses on exploring the outdoors, setting challenges and encountering new experiences! You’ll get to go on camps with your Unit, and you might attend a Cuboree camp with thousands of other Cub Scouts. As well as learning skills like how to use a compass and tie a knot, you’ll go on bushwalks, bike and canoe trips, and do things like indoor rock climbing, and sometimes even flying! Here are some photos of the activities that Cubs do, and photos from the recent Cuboree.

Scouts

The Scouts section offers an amazing variety of activities designed to enrich important life skills. They develop more complex outdoor adventure skills in a fun, social and active environment. The Scouts section focuses on allowing young people to develop their confidence and teaches them how to work as part of a team. Scouts learn essential outdoor safety skills as well as participate in a variety of physical and intellectual challenges.

Activites consist of multi-day bushwalks carrying all of your own equipment (on tracks), camping expeditions, still water and moving water kayaking, canoeing and sailing, cross-country skiing (day tyrips), vertical pursuits like rock climbing, caving and abseiling, and more! Most importantly the Scout youth members discuss and craft the program of activities they want to do. With help from Adult Leaders almost everything is possible.

Venturer Scouts

The Venturer Scouts section is a do-it-yourself mix of fun, adventure and personal challenge that brings together like-minded young people. As a Venturer Scout, you’ll have the space to have fun learning and developing your own character at your own pace. Some of the expeditions Venturer Scouts at 1st Bungendore have done include exploring wilderness areas in coastal to alpine environments, trekking in Nepal, sea kayacking in the Whitsunday Islands, and walking the Overland Track in Tasmania in mid winter. Perhaps you’ll learn white water kayaking or ride your mountain bike on an expedition across real mountains - the program is developed around your interests and decisions.
